SUMMER - SUN KISSED SKIN, WHITE POWDERY SAND, PALM TREES, COCKTAILS AND BAREFOOT WALKS AT SUNSET IN AIRY SKIRTS AND ALL WHITE ERRYTHINGS. BEAT THAT.
In a little gap between my hendrix tonics (two slices of cucumber please!) by the pool, I reached for my book. Currently reading - 'The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**K' - (pardon my French, it's not me, it's Sarah Knight's bestselling awesomeness) , which all too conveniently jigsawed into my current state of mind. If you (are living under a rock) haven't seen it before, please check it out, you won't be able to put it down. Easy, and straightforward, with a ferocious - but so on point - use of the F word, the book talks about how to rid yourself of unwanted obligations, shame and guilt and give your f**ks instead to people and things that make you happy - long story short, 'the art of saying no'. I spent an average of an hour reading while my friend was scrolling her Instagram (something I would most possibly do too in other occasions) !
And then, realisation hit me! I don't read as much anymore. What happened?
Dat realisation evolved into a horrifying concession as to how much my 'offline' information consumption spectrum has shrunk since the internet and whole social media world (war) - I used to read A LOT. And when I say a lot, I mean, finish one in two days. Nah, I didn't have more free time than I do now, but if you think how many times in a day we scroll up and down our Instagrams, believe you me, you got the time right there.
I went from hundreds of pages of Kundera and Murakami to the same points of text in the form of picture captions.
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Instagram and social media, it's my work after all, my source of inspiration most of the times too, but the fulfillment magic of finishing a (life-changing) book - beat that!
But, you know – it’s not that easy to stay in the right lane. It's like all addictions. Espresso lovers around here?
In fact, during a dinner last week, a friend suggested a challenge of staying off the web for 3 consecutive days and was asking who was up for it. Needless to say there were not many intéressées there.. and we were quite a few!
It's the way our brain functions these days..I know mine does at least, I do admit it.
Books people, books!
Aside from the too good book that instigated this spiralling realisation as to my current intellective landscape and this helpless outpouring, I am yet again out of context (rolling eyes and hands up emojis right there!) aka let me remember why I came here in the first place.
Arh, weekend wanderer, barefoot summer dreaming and what to wear on a weekend getaway.
Three looks. Enjoy!
P.S. I am doing that cleanse sometime very soon. Who else? Three days, no connection.
Rehab! Yes or no?
